The Easter holidays will be upon the area and many are preparing fun activities to celebrate, including the Liberal Parks and Recreation Department.

The department will be hosting a pair of Easter egg hunts later this month and encourages the entire community to come out and participate.

“We don’t really have to encourage them to come per se, there’s always a lot who come,” Parks and Recreation Activities Supervisor Ronna Stump said. “The Blue Bonnet hunt is our biggest one and we always have a lot of little ones who come out to have fun.”

The Blue Bonnet Easter egg hunt will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 29 at the north end of Blue Bonnet Park and staff will also be having a hunt at 1 p.m. Friday March 30 at Arkalon Park. Both egg hunts are for children from 3 years old to 3rd grade.

“You don’t want to be late for the Blue Bonnet one because it always gets done really quickly,” Stump said. “It’s always fun watching all the little ones running around looking for the eggs. We typically get about 300 children participating in the Blue Bonnet hunt each year.”

Stump said she also enjoys seeing all the young participants get excited about not only the egg hunts but also for Easter.

“We’re the first in the series of groups having egg hunts and it’s so big and it always gets the children excited about Easter and hunting eggs,” Stump said. “I always expect a large crowd to come, and I don’t think this year should be any different. It keeps growing and growing every year and I see that continuing to happen.”

There will also be some extra fun at the Arkalon hunt, Stump said.

“E.M. Photography will be giving away two scooters at that event. Last year at that, we had about 125 there and it’s always a really nice one and it’s always great when they open the park early for us to do that,” Stump said. “If you prefer not to be in a larger crowd, the Arkalon one is great since it’s smaller. We’ll have the hunt right there in the campgrounds, which is always really nice and Arkalon’s always really nice. But both will be really fun and we’re all looking foward to both of them.”

The community is invited and encouraged to attend.

“Come out and join us for the hunts and have some fun with us!” Stump said.
