For a half, the Lady Redskins played like the best team in Kansas.

But a fourth quarter meltdown proved to be too much, and Liberal dropped its first game of the season to No. 8 Omaha-Marion, Neb., 59-35.

In the first half, the Lady Redskins avoided the 6-foot, 6-inch center by shooting perimeter shots.

On the defensive end, Liberal went toe-to-toe on the boards.

The result was a 29-18 lead midway through the secodn quarter.

But Marian battled back and had a chance to tie or take the lead into halftime, but a shot clanked off the rim at the buzzer, and the Lady Redskins headed to the break with a 29-27 lead.

Another strong defensive effort contained Marian  in the third, but the Lady Redskins struggled to shoot, and Marian took a 38-35 lead into the fourth quarter.

And that’s when it got ugly for the Lady Redskins.
