The combination of a bruising ground game, a relentless defense and a superb effort on special teams led to a 38-14 victory over Dodge City for the eighth grade West Warrior football team Thursday evening.

West started its scoring with an impressive five-minute drive in the first quarter that ended with a 19-yard touchdown run by Pablo Marquez.

The Warriors scored again in the second quarter when Princeton Romero ran the ball in from 22 yards out, and West took a 14-6 lead into the half.

A huge third quarter for the Warriors busted the game wide open, as West found its way into the endzone three times in the quarter.

Alec Menywether started the scoring in the second half with an eight-yard run to cap off a four-minute drive.

Menywether then stepped up on the defensive side of the ball, returning an interception 55 yards for the pick-six.

Sean Titus later found the endzone on a 12-yard scamper.

Romero added another touchdown in the fourth quarter, after a 16-yard run put him in the endzone again.

Dodge City could not stop the Warriors ground game. West racked up close to 350 yards rushing on the night.

The Warriors forced three turnovers in a stellar defensive effort, and reovered three onside kicks in the game.

The win improves the eighth West team to 3-3 on the year. Their three losses have been by four, five and six points.

The Warriors will prepare for the South Apaches on Thursday at Redskin Field.
