People are making plans – and costumes – to participate in one of Liberal’s most unique (and shortest) annual parades of the year – The Kiwanis Pet and Spook Parade.

Not only is the parade short, it goes the wrong direction. Rather than traditional parade routes from Light Park south to the railroad tracks, the Kiwanis Pet and Spook Parade starts at the railroads tracks and marches north to Fifth Street. It then turns left to Tobias Park where the treat bags are passed out to participants – if they pick up a coupon at the parade start staging area at Trail Street and Grant, next to the tracks.

Line up for the parade starts at 3:45 p.m. on Halloween Day, Oct. 31, and the parade sarts at 4. Be sure to get a treat bag coupon to ensure receiving a treat bag at Tobias Park.

The costumes on both the people and their pets is a sight the public won’t want to miss. Be sure to get a spot along the parade route before 4 p.m.
