Thomas “Gene” Hinton, 80, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born March 29, 1929, to Mack and Anna (Resneder) Hinton in Blanchard, Okla.

He married Patricia A. Owens Aug. 22, 1959, in Perryton, Texas. She survives.

He attended school in Blanchard, Okla.

He came to Liberal in the 1950s and worked at Pepsi for several years. He worked at National Beef from 1975 to 1994 when he retired as a maintenance supervisor. He continue working there part time until 2006. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the VFW Lane Day Post No. 3166 in Liberal.

He is also survived by one son, Jerry Hinton and wife, Virginia, Liberal; three daughters, Barbara Kirkland and husband, Craig, Hot Springs, Ark., Brenda Skinner and husband, Gary, Claremore, Okla., and Carol Ann Bennett and husband, Rock, Liberal; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Fayrene Martin, four brothers, one sister and one grandson.

o Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Central Christian Church with Pastor Charles Scroggs presiding.

Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, 9 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Miller Mortuary.
