Melvin Carl “PaPa” Porter, 65, died Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born April 19, 1948, in Garnett to Ralph C. and Emma Ellen (Keller). He was raised by his step dad L.G. Barney Brock.
He married Schenena Jones Nov. 18, 1966. She survives.
He graduated Liberal High School in 1966 and attended Garden City Community College.
He worked as a farmer, at National Beef Packing Plant.  He also became a master electrician and for the past 30 years he owned Ram Electric.
He was a member of the H.O.G. for many years and of the Elks Club.
He was an avid bowler, shooter, and did metal detecting. He enjoyed riding his Harley and spent time with his friends.
He is also survived by one son, Kelly B. Porter, Liberal; one daughter, Lindee Tarver and husband, Brian Pueblo, Colo.; two brothers, Larry Brock and wife, Teri Magnolia, Texas; Kevin Brock Houston, Texas; three sisters, Orville Sherer, Houston, Texas; Marian McCaulley and husband, Vern, Liberal; Debra Brock, Liberal; four grandchildren, Kennedy M. Porter Edmond, Okla., Morgan, Keaton and Catie Jackson, Pueblo, Colo; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews,  cousins; father-in-law, H.P. “Corky” Jones, Chandler, Texas; and many day care kids that knew him as “PaPa”;
He was preceded in death by his father, step father and mother-in-law, Wilma Jean Jones.
• There will be no visitation time as cremation has taken place.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel.
