ELKHART – Nelda Bernice Rhoads, 79, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.

She was born Oct. 10, 1933, to Glenn T. and Minnie Martha (Honeman) Smith in Hooker, Okla.

She married James Francis Rhoads Feb. 4, 1951, in Clayton, N.M. He survives.

She was a clerk for K-Mart for 15 years. She was also a cook at Morton County Hospital for more than four years.

She was a member of the Hillcrest Bible Baptist Church in Elkhart.

Other survivors include her daughter, Bonnie Bernice Fraser and husband, James, Elkhart; sisters, Vernadean Christiensen and husband, Vernon, Buhler,  Velma Welch of Arizona and Glenda Mae Dickey, Santa Fe, N.M.;  four grandchildren, Tessa, Samantha, Melissa and Dena; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Eugene Lynn Rhoads; brother, Harold Smith; and granddaughter, Barbara Jean Fraser.

o Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Elkhart, with Pastor Terrell Giddens presiding.

Burial will follow at the Elkhart Cemetery.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.
