MONTEZUMA – Clara Wiens, 83, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at Bethel Home Inc. in Montezuma.
She was born Jan. 29, 1926, to Jacob and Carrie (Koehn) Wiens in Montezuma.
She attended Sunnyside School in rural Copeland through the eighth grade. She graduated from Montezuma High School. She went to college at Bethel Deaconess School of Nursing in Newton, receiving her R.N. degree.
She held many jobs in the nursing field. She taught nursing for 11 years. She worked for Bethel Home for four years, Mercy Hospital for two years, a doctor’s office for three years, medical records for five years and at Dodge City Hospital for 18 years.
She was a member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Montezuma.
Survivors include two brothers, Edward Wiens, Pampa, Texas, and Alvin Wiens and wife, Ruth, Manhattan; four sisters, Susanna Unruh, Irene Koehn, Alma Wiens and Velma Wiens, all of Montezuma; one sister-in-law, Gladys Wiens, Moundridge; and many nephews, nieces and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Henry Wiens and three infant brothers.
o Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Montezuma Mennonite Church with ministers Charles Schmidt, Kalvin Salsbury and Wilber Koehn presiding.
Burial will be at the North Mennonite Church Cemetery in Montezuma.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Montezuma Funeral Home.
