EVELYN J. THOMPSON
JOHNSON – Evelyn Jean Thompson, 84, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at the Stanton County Hospital in Johnson.
She was born Aug. 14, 1925, to Herbert David and Mabel Arleta (Fisher) Johnson in Edwards County.
She married Vern A. Thompson Nov. 29, 1944, in Trousdale. He died June 12, 2000.
She graduated from high school in Trousdale and attended Kansas State University.
Evelyn and Vern raised cattle in Hamilton, Stanton and Kearny counties.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Worthwhile Unit and the Cosmos Club, all of Johnson.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, staying at the cabin in Colorado, painting and sewing.
Survivors include three sons, David Thompson and wife, Great Bend, Keith Thompson and wife, Linda, Manhattan, and Mark Thompson and wife, Deborah, Lawrence; three daughters, Linda McCann and husband, Bill, New Melle, Mo., Janet Cassing and husband, Dave, Aurora, Ore., and Karen Markley and husband, Howard, Syracuse; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Donald Johnson, and two sisters, Dorothy Hoopingarner and Jane Goertz.
o Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson with the Rev. Don Hasty presiding.
Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
