LEONARD HILL JR.


ULYSSES –  Leonard Hill Jr., 82, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
He was born Dec. 1, 1925, to Leonard and Veda Belle (Baker) Hill in Carthage, Mo.
He married Norma Mitchell  June 9, 1946, in Ulysses. She survives.


He served in the Army during the Korean War.  He worked for Max Ainsworth.  He also worked at the theatre in the 1950s for Bo Crocker and at the Firestone Store.  He was a carpenter and also started a fire extinguisher business in Ulysses.  He was an undersheriff, past fire chief and started the first EMTs in Grant County. 
He was an activity bus driver, foreman on the Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church building and a state commander in the American Legion.  He was a member of the Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post No. 79.


Other survivors include four daughters, Susan Lynn Britton and husband, Roger, Dodge City, Barbara Lee Lancaster and husband, Dean, Sterling,  Mary Jo Dimitt and husband, Terry, Ulysses, and Terri Ann Scott and husband, Dennis, Katy, Texas; two brothers, Robert Hill, Sterling, Colo., and Max Hill, Carthage, Mo.; two sisters, Maurine Huron, Web City, Mo., and Bonnie Dingman, Carthage, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen Chester.


o Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Wayne Flanders and the Rev. Bill Harrold presiding. 
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery with military rites performed by the Dexter D. Harbour Post No. 79. 
Friends may call until 8p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home. 


Memorials are suggested to the Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post No. 79 or the Grant County Fire Department both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS  67880.
