Trey Craft has the Bee Jays’ number.

The El Dorado pitcher from Murray State limited the Bee Jays to four hits in a 7-0 shutout “We just had a great game pitched against us,” Liberal pitching coach Galen McSpadden said. “He had a good slider, good fast ball, and we didn’t make an adjustment. We didn’t hit.”

Liberal managed three hits in the first three innings and only added one more the rest of the game.

While the Bee Jays struggled to hit, Matt Hauser struggled with his defense from the mound.

“Hauser, booted a bunt,” McSpadden said. “We missed a ball over the third baseman’s head.”

That was an inning where the Broncos scored four runs.

Will Skelton came in to relieve Hauser and gave up a home run in the loss.

“We were no threat at any time,” McSpadden said. “We didn’t even come close to to scoring.”

Chad Comer provided the only spark with a double. But there was no support, and he did not score.

Brett Davis will start tonight’s game against league-leading El Dorado.

“This is a fastball hitting club,” McSpadden said. “Davis has some change-ups. He keeps the ball down.”

Splitting the series is critical. There are only 12 games remaining, and the Bee Jays are four games behind the Broncos.

“Hopefully we will try to get back on track,” he said. “We have a history of not playing well on travel days.”

So far, the Bee Jays have not put together more than a three-game winning streak. McSpadden said the Bee Jays were due.

“Usually you have a roll or two,” he said. “We haven’t had a roll. We need to get on a roll. Baseball is a game of streaks, we haven’t had a good streak yet. We need to get a streak going.”
