The Liberal Bulldogs traveled to Elkhart Tuesday for a doubleheader.
The Bulldogs strong bats led to an 8-3 first-game win in the seven- inning contest. The Bulldogs also topped in the five-inning-second- game contest, 10-3.
In the seven-inning contest Victor Rivera went 3-4 with thee doubles.
Jace Moore started the game for the Bulldogs and Brandon Granger finished the last three innings.
Elkhart’s runs all came in the third and were unearned but Liberal put up 17 hits to Elkhart’s four which led to the 8-3 win for the Bulldogs.
Liberal came out on top in the second game 10-3 in five. Three Bulldogs took the hill in the five-inning game, Mario Armindarez started and gave up the three runs, then Austin Pitts relieved, and Kyle Potts closed, Pitts and Potts gave up no runs in the contest.
“We played well,” Bulldog head coach Eric Olmstead said. “Elkhart was very much improved and played solid, we just didn’t give up too many hits and we had some good approaches at the plate.”
The Bulldogs sweep moves them to 24-4 overall and unbeaten, 11-0, in league play. Liberal will head to Guymon tomorrow for the O-K league tournament. The Bulldogs received a bye today and will play Hooker at
6 p.m. tomorrow night and all day throughout Saturday.
The District tournament for the Bulldogs will take place July 17 in Liberal.
