Daily Leader staff report

Liberal Bee Jay Chris Kersten won’t be filling the designated hitter role any longer.

The Louisiana Tech senior was chosen in the 33rd round by the Cleveland Indians as a third baseman Thursday. Kersten was the 995th player overall to be drafted.

Kersten accepted the offer to join the Indians organization and headed to join the squad.

Kersten did not play for the Bee Jays Thursday night.

In all, three Bee Jays were selected in the draft — Cameron Monger, Kersten and Bobby Doran.

Possible picks Steven Tucker and Tanner Rindels went undrafted.

Monger was selected by the Padres in the 27th round, and Doran was picked up by the Pirates in the 36th round.

Kersten and Monger have accepted their offers and stepped down from the Bee Jays while Doran has until August to make his decision.
