A near-capacity crowd turned out to watch the first pointed race of the season Sunday, and by the time the dust had cleared, Cody Gearhart had a victory in the modified division and CJ Johnson took the sprint checkered, coming from 10th place in the main feature.
Taylor Velasquez put his sprint car on the track despite having a broken arm. He started the main feature on the second row but finished in the middle of the pack.
Ty Williams was out in front early, but a mechanical failure forced the No. 1 car off the track.
Van Kuhn also started on the first row but could not finish the race.
That opened the door for Johnson to weave his way through traffic and move from 10th to first.
Ray Seeman also worked his way through the pack on the 25-lap feature and turned an eighth-place start into a second place finish.
Barry Crane also also maneuvered his No. 30c car from seventh to third.
Keefe Hemel finished fourth.
In the modifieds, the race was only for second after Cody Gearhart started out front and continued to pull away.
The only cars that slowed Gearhart down were the cars he lapped.
