A big third quarter helped Cimmaron take the lead away from the favored Southwestern Heights Mustangs, and they held on in the final period to win 56-54.

Heights led early in the contest 16-13, and still maintained a 1-point lead heading into the halftime locker room.

But Cimmaron outscored Heights 22-15 in the third to take a 45-39 lead into the final period. The Mustangs outscored Cimmaron 15-11 in the final stanza, but came up 2-points short of sending it to overtime.

Ben Johnsrud led the Mustangs with 15 points, while Rogelio Martinez and Clayton Chase each added 11.

Heights will face Wichita County, who lost to Elkhart 45-43, Friday at 3 p.m. at Garden City Community College.
