Earl Edward Boldt, 94, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses. 
He was born March 11, 1914, to Herman F. and Martha (Pagenkopf) Boldt south of Belmont.
He married Dorothy McClaren May 20, 1939, in Lewis. She died Aug. 12, 2002.
He attended school in Belmont, graduating from Belmont High School in 1932. He graduated cum laude from Southwestern College in Winfield in 1936 with a bachelor of arts degree in education and history.
He worked on the family farm near Bushton.  He began his teaching career in Leon, followed by stints in Belmont, in Cullison and in Hill City. 
He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Ulysses.
He was a charter member of the Ulysses Lions Club in 1952, receiving his 55 years of service chevron in 2007. He served on the Ulysses Grade School education board and was elected director of the Grant County Rural High School education board in 1958. He was elected to the board of directors of the Ulysses Co-operative Oil and Supply Co., serving 12 years as board president. In 1989, he and Dorothy were named Big Orange Boosters of the Year. In 1983, they received the Ulysses Chamber of Commerce’s Farm Family of the Year award.
Survivors include one son, Gary Boldt, Ulysses; one daughter, Chari Shoemake and husband, Tom, Overland Park; two grandchildren, Ryan Shoemake and Kari Shoemake; one sister-in-law, Norma Gatterman; one niece, Paula Stein; and two nephews, Bryan Gatterman and Bruce Gatterman.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mildred Stucky.
o Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Wayne Flanders presiding. 
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. 
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home. 
Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, Grant County Scholarship Fund or the Ulysses Lions Club sight fund, all in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS 67880.
