The Lady Saints would like to forget the Thanksgiving Classic in Garden City after dropping two games over the weekend at the holiday event.
Seward opened with a 69-65 loss to No. 9 Independence Friday and then fell to New Mexico Junior College Saturday.
The Lady Saints had halftime leads in both games.
Ashlynn Knoll had her worst game of the season saturday, only hitting one of 13 shots and finishing with four points.
She was not the only Lady Saint to struggle. Anete Kersteine went 0 for 10, and Ricquia Jones was one of nine. As a team, the Lady Saints shot 30 percent.
The difference came at the free throw line — a place the Lady Saints didn’t reach very often. Seward made five of eight attempts, and only two of those in the second half, while New Mexico connected on 18 of 22 attempts.
Three Lady Saints reached double figures. Mariah Lee, Charmaine Burns and Payton Fleming all scored 14 points each.
The two losses came to quality opponents. Independence is 9-0 and New Mexico is 10-1.
The Lady Saints (7-2) will travel to Hutchinson Friday for another two-game classic.
The Lady Saints will face Barclay Friday and then will battle No. 16 State Fair Saturday.
