Special to the Leader & Times

Liberal hosted a Western Athletic Conference girls golf tournament Thursday at Willow Tree Golf Course.

The event was a nine-hole event that was won by Hays, second was Dodge, third was Garden, Liberal finished fourth and fifth place was Great Bend.

Maddie Curry from Hays won the event with a score of even par 36.  Liberal’s Evan Sumner placed sixth with a 45, a career low score.

“Evan is finding her swing and how to make it work for her, that is very promising for her and her team,” Liberal coach Kody Thexton said. “She has been putting in extra time and it is starting to show.”

Jamie Brond was 12th with a 51. Julie Jackle shot a 62, Amanda Beaman shot a 69. Jesslin Lamont and Courtney Wiedener also participated.

“I was disappointed with how our girls played at our home course,” Thexton said. “It is not the effort a team should have at their course.  We will have to get our attitudes going in the right direction and scores heading lower.”

Liberal’s next tournament will be Tuesday at Ulysses.
