South’s seventh and eighth grade football teams just couldn’t get a break Thursday at Apache Field.
Neither team reached the end zone in a pair of losses to the Hawks.
The bad day started early for the seventh graders. Abe Hubert jumped out to a 16-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
When the Apache offense attempted to get to the outside on a sweep, Abe Hubert had more defenders and dropped the South running backs for losses.
South did keep the Abe Hubert offense out of the end zone before half by faking a punt and running the final few seconds off the clock.
By that time, South already railed 30-0.
The Apaches slowed down the Hawks in the second half but could not get a score in the 46-0 loss.
The eighth grade played a physical game against Abe Hubert with big hits on both sides.
But a 12-0 contest through three quarters got away from the Apaches in the fourth.
Abe Hubert added two late touchdowns for a 25-0 victory over South.
The Apaches will make the cross-town drive to play the Warriors at Redskin Field Thursday. Games begin at 5 p.m.
