“Where were you in ’62?”
That’s the theme for this year’s fifth annual Yellow Brick Road Car Show Saturday in Liberal. That theme was generated when chairman Bill Hill found out that Paul Le Mat, the actor who played John Milner in “American Graffiti” agreed to come to Liberal this year for the show.
Le Mat is also known for his award-winning performance in “The Burning Bed,” and he has been a long-time custom car and hot rod admirer. He will be available throughout the day to sign autographs and pose for pictures.
“We are excited to welcome him to the show and feel he will be a great addition to the day,” Hill said. “We have lots of other surprises planned so be sure to get your entries in soon and be sure to tell a friend and bring them along for the fun.”
Pre-registration at $20 per vehicle is still open through Friday. All vehicles must be registered prior to 11 a.m. Saturday to be eligible for prizes – including six drawings for $100 each during the day. Those pre-registered will receive tickets to the “Come Early” free barbecue starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Billy’s Mexican Grill and Q.
More than 100 vehicles had preregistered by noon Tuesday, and Hill said more than 300 vehicles registered at last year’s show. He expects to surpass that number for this year’s show.
One thing Hill and the Yellow Brick Road Committee does each year is donate some of the revenue to charity.
“We will give the proceeds to Southwest Miracles for Adults this year,” Hill said.
The Yellow Brick Road Car Show will officially kick off for the public at 8:30 a.m. and run through 4 p.m. Saturday in the Village Plaza parking lots at North Kansas Avenue and Tenth Street across from the water park. Prizes for the vehicles will be given out at 3 p.m.
