Phil Keaggy, noted Christian vocalist and guitarist who has recorded more than 50 albums, will perform in concert in Liberal Feb. 22 as part of International Pancake Day festivities.

Well-known in Christian music circles, Keaggy is the winner of numerous Dove awards, capturing his first one in 1988 for an instrumental album, “The Wind and the Wheat,” and most recently winning a Dove for “Lights of Madrid.” For three years in a row, Keaggy was voted one of the top fingerstyle guitarists by Guitar Player Magazine readers.

Keaggy, a native of Youngstown, Ohio, began garnering attention as a gifted guitarist when he and a couple of friends formed the rock band Glass Harp in 1970.

Glass Harp opened for bands such as the Kinks and Yes and also performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The group recorded several albums, including “Synergy” and “It Makes Me Glad,” before Keaggy left the band to begin a solo career in 1972.

According to Keaggy’s Web site, he is “one of the most sought after studio guitarists” who “continues to sell out concerts all over the United States, with his ever-changing style, ranging from rock-and- roll to fully orchestrated instrumental compositions.”

Those new to Keaggy’s music can find plenty of clips on www.youtube.com if they want to check out his style. More information is also available on his Web site, www.philkeaggy.com.

Phil Keaggy’s performance is sponsored by the International Pancake Day Board, the Ministerial Alliance and First Southern Baptist Church. The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, at Liberal High School Auditorium in Liberal. Tickets are priced at just $13 and $10 and are available by calling 624-6423.
