HOOKER, Okla. — The Hooker Bulldogs baseball team didn’t play a particularly dominating pair of games Monday afternoon. But they didn’t need to.
Hooker took a pair of run-rule wins over the young Tyrone Bobcats, 15-0, 12-0 on a dusty, blustery day at Jack Goosen Field.
Each game lasted 2-1/2 innings and were punctuated by a high number of walks and hit batsmen by Tyrone pitching.
In the first game, Tyrone’s pitchers combined to allow nine hits, walk three and hit four batters. Tyrone also committed seven passed balls or wild pitches in the game.
Hooker pitcher Guerrero Garcia didn’t allow a hit, walked two and struck out three.
In the meantime, the Hooker bats got hits at key times as the Bulldogs scored seven runs in the bottom of the first and eight in the second.
Chad Kennedy had a single, double and a 2-run inside-the-park homerun, Taylor McBee added a double and Brandon Goosen hit a single and double to lead Hooker.
Game two featured more of the same as Bobcats pitching combined for eight walks, five wild pitches/passed balls and four hit batsmen while allowing only four hits.
Hooker pitcher Brandon Goosen allowed just one hit — a single by Jacob Williams — but struck out four and only walked one.
The big hitter of the second game was Goosen, who hit two doubles that knocked in five runs as Hooker scored five runs in the first and seven in the second.
Next up for the Bulldogs is a trip to Buffalo, Okla. today at 4:30 p.m. Hooker plays at Laverne on Monday and returns to Jack Goosen Field March 31 to take on rival Turpin.
Tyrone travels to Guymon on Thursday to take on the Tigers junior varsity.
