Lady Mustangs stay perfect
Daily Leader correspondent
KISMET — Wow – there’s nothin’ like that Lady Mustang defense.
Things got scrappy during the first half of the game at Southwestern
Heights when the Lady Mustangs went up against the Sublette Lady
Larks Friday and chalked up a 57-27 win.  During only the first
minute and a half of play, the Lady Mustangs got penalized for four
Changing up their usual first half of play, the Lady Mustangs did not
press full-court, but they still held the Larks to 12 first half points.
Making a threat from the outside, both the Brown sisters put in a
three pointers. They were the high scorers with Holly Brown putting
up 13 and Heidi Brown adding 12. The post play coming from Kathy
Eakes who had the game-high 11 rebounds was strong as well. The half
ended with the ever-dominating Mustangs leading 20-12.
Almost like the ladies were begging for it, the press came out with a
vengeance during the second half.  With several steals, the Lady
Mustangs took the ball to the bucket.  At just two minutes into the
third quarter, the Lady Mustangs were tromping 31-14.
Combining that press and the defense, the Lady Mustangs were
unstoppable.  “Defense wins championships, and all 22 girls practice
in-your-face defense,” Coach Barry Mellen praised.
The Larks couldn’t get a chance. With only two minutes left in the
ballgame and the score at 54-23, the Lady Mustangs made
substitutions.  Never letting up intensity, the Mustangs quieted the
birdsong with a 57-27 win.
