Boys first, girls fourth at Liberal bowling tournament PDF Print E-mail

The Liberal High School boys bowling team took first in its own tournament on Monday at Ayr Lanes, knocking off No. 1 Garden City 3-1 and No. 2 Great Bend 3-1
“All in all the most exciting bowling I personally have ever been a part of, watching the boys make crucial shot after crucial shot,” head coach Robert Burkey said.
The girls took fourth overall in the tournament, and was up 2-0 in match play, but couldn’t close out the match to Garden City, losing 3-2 before falling to Dodge City 3-0.
Individually for the LHS boys, Dylan Sandell bowled a 601, Jared Hall 597, Hunter Rinehart and Adrian Amado 574, Hunter Sandell 565 and Jeff Minor 532 as Liberal bowled a team total 2375, qualifying them fourth for the tournament.
Great Bend was second in the tournament, followed by Garden City, Dodge City and Holcomb.
For the girls, Erica Fowler led the charge in singles play with a 601 series, followed by Katie Jennings at 593, Kylie Jennings 549, Jessica Fowler 534, Kimberly Vanley 474 and Madison Butler 429.
Liberal’s girls bowled 2315 as a team to qualify first for the tournament. Dodge City qualified second but ended up third in the tournament. Great Bend won, followed by Garden City in second, Dodge, Liberal and Holcomb.
Liberal next bowls at Dodge City on Feb. 10.
