L&T staff report
DODGE CITY — Four straight free throws thanks to two technical fouls called against Liberal — during halftime warmups — was enough to lift the Dodge City Demons to a 54-48 win over Liberal on Saturday.
Jade Cathey was called for two technical fouls for dunking the ball during warmups prior to the start of the second half, with Dodge up by five.
Cathey sat out the third quarter, but still led the Redslins with 13 points. DeVondre Livingston added 10 for Liberal, who falls to 8-7 overall and 2-2 in Western Athletic Conference play heading into Tuesday’s night’s non-conference battle at Guymon, Okla.
The Tigers are 15-5 overall and have won six of their last seven games.
• The Dodge City Lady Demons had no trouble with Liberal in a 50-22 win on Saturday, holding Justice Norah to an uncharacteristic six points.
At 8-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play, Liberal visits Guymon on Tuesday to face a Lady Tigers team that has struggled without 6-foot-2 Vanessa DeWilde.
