Founder’s Day 5K set for Saturday PDF Print E-mail

The 2011 Founder’s Day 5K race will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at West Middle School, a block north of 2nd and Western. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the West Middle School gym. The race will loop south to 2nd, west to Clay, north to 15th and west to Western before heading back south.
There’s also a 1-mile predict race beginning at 9 a.m. in front of Broadcast Square at 15th and Western and head south to 2nd and Western. Registration will take place at 8 a.m. at the KSCB radio studios.
The race ties in to the history of Liberal as it runs past Rogers Farm, site of the original Liberal well. All of the award will reflect Kansas Day, as well.
The run is the second of the 2011 Yellow Brick Road Runner Series. The first was the Chili Run on Jan. 15, which benefitted Stepping Stone Shelter.
Other upcoming races include the Super Sunday Shuffle 5K and mile predict race on Feb. 6, which precedes a Super Bowl party, and the Saints Challenge 5K and mile predict on Feb. 12 benefitting the Seward County Community College/Area Technical School Development Foundation.
Tyson McGuire was the first overall male in the Chili Run with a time of 21:16, and Karen Burrows was the first overall female with a time of 26:02.
