City of Liberal Fire Department  has announced the addition of three more firefighters, according to a press release from chief Kelly Kirk.

“The department welcomes the following individuals to the department:

Mark Rempe, Jeremy Fettig and Ryan Delay,” Kirk noted.

“In accordance and cooperation with the City of Liberal mandate to increase the size and capabilities of the city fire department, these three applicants have submitted and passed the qualifications to be hired as full time firefighters,” Kirk continued.

“Rempe comes from Oconto, Neb., and has been a firefighter since 2000. He has a degree in Electrical Wiring and Fire Protection. He enjoys the great outdoors, and ‘Anything that challenges me and my fears.’”

“Fettig comes from Billings, Mont., where he’s been working as a firefighter in wild land and structural fire protection, and Hazardous Materials response,” Kirk said. “He has a degree in Fire Science and is excited about getting to work in a municipal fire jurisdiction. Jeremy noted that while there are no mountains or large bodies of water in the immediate area, he’s certain that he will not lack for things to do as he enjoys many outdoor activities such as 4- wheeling, jet skiing and hunting.

“Delay is not a stranger to our area, coming from Turpin, Okla., where he has worked with the Turpin Fire Department for two years,”

Kirk noted. “He has a degree in business and is a business owner here in Liberal. He’s married and has a child and is very happy to be working as a firefighter for the city. He, too, enjoys outdoor activities, as well as water and snow skiing.

These three have already begun their probationary period with the department, and in two weeks, each one will join one of the three shifts that help to keep the community safe.

“It is with great pride that we welcome Mark, Jeremy and Ryan, and we know that they will be a great asset to the fire house and our community,” Kirk added.
