State Representative Carl Holmes (R- Liberal) has been selected to chair four committees in the Kansas Legislature for the 2011-2012 session. Holmes will continue to serve as Chair of the House Energy and Utilities Committee, a position he has held for the past 12 years.
“I look forward to continuing my chairmanship on the House Energy and Utilities Committee,” Holmes said. “The committee has been responsible for developing major energy legislation that moves the State of Kansas forward in a positive direction and I’m excited to further build upon our success.”
Holmes has also been named chair of the Joint House and Senate Administrative Rules and Regulations Committee which is responsible for reviewing all proposed rules and regulations for state agencies and the Joint Committee on Energy and Environmental Policy which recommends new energy and environmental policies.
In addition, Holmes will continue to chair the Kansas Electric Transmission Authority (KETA) which he has chaired since its inception in 2005. Responsible for expanding new electric transmission lines in Kansas, KETA has been instrumental in developing and implementing plans for constructing more than 300 miles of new transmission lines in the state.
Representative Holmes will also serve as a member of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Budget Committee which makes recommendations on the budgets for the Division of Environment, Department of Agriculture, Kansas Corporation Commission, Kansas Water Office and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.
Holmes was first elected to represent the 125th House District in 1985, which includes part of Seward County and the community of Liberal. He is currently serving his 14th term in the Kansas House of Representatives.
