Redskin boys fall to Sunrise Christian
COLBY — The Liberal Lady Redskins picked up a 42-35 win over Hugoton on Friday night in a game that was closer than it should have been.
Liberal led by 18 points in the first half, but struggled offensively in the second half. They didn’t score for the first five minutes of the second half.
Hugoton’s Nicole Kinser scored 8 points and grabbed 12 boards for the Eagles. She also had five blocked shots.
Hugoton (1-10) twice cut Liberal’s lead to two, but was forced to start fouling, and the Lady Red made their free throws.
Justice Norah led Liberal (6-5) with 16 points.
The Lady Red was scheduled to take on Sunrise Christian at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Liberal Redskins had their hands full with a tall and talented Sunrise Christian School on Friday night in Colby. But 24 percent shooting hurt the Skins — along with Sunrise Christian’s superior height — in a 21-point loss.
Liberal (6-5) trailed by 11 entering the final frame.
Leading scorer Jade Cathey was 0-for-17 from the field, but had 10 boards. Tyson Deaton scored 14 for the Skins.
Liberal won’t play for the championship of the Orange and Black for the first time in five years, and will instead play McCook, Neb. for third place Saturday at 4.
Sunrise Christian will face Hays in the tournament championship.
