The South Middle School Apache 7th graders put up a good fight on Thursday afternoon, but in the end, the Dodge City Middle School Cardinals were simply too much in a 51-17 loss at South Middle School.
The difference was Dodge City’s shooting and defensive pressure.
The Cardinals jumped to a 5-0 lead before Jair Valles scored South’s first points at the 3:40 mark of the first. Valles scored South’s other first quarter basket as the Apaches were down 13-4 after the first quarter.
Dodge City increased its lead to 24-9 at the half. Javier Michel scored four from the field and Victor Monarrez added a free throw for South in the second quarter.
The Apaches could only manage a Michel free throw in the third as Dodge City increased its lead to 36-10 en route to a 51-17 win.
Michel led South with 7 points and Valles added 4.
• The South B team was down 23-3 at the half and fell to Dodge City 37-5.
