RAY H. AMEN
Ray Harden Amen, 103, died Wed., Dec. 24, 2008, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, Kansas.
He was born August 14, 1905, to Henry and Evan (Reel) Amen in a dugout in Beaver County, No Man’s Land, before Oklahoma became a state.
He married Lena May Morris March 5, 1925. She died Oct. 19, 1999. They would have celebrated 75 years of marriage in 5 more months. They both attended Greenough High School, Union Methodist Church and Bethel Church of God.
He served on the Union School Board, Greenough Election Board and was a charter member of the Liberal Trail Riders. Later, he enjoyed taking his grandchildren on campouts and parades with the Trail Riders and attended most of their athletic activities.
He was a farmer all his life up until around 100 years of age. He raised quarter horses for a number of years, as well as shetland ponies, showing them at the Five State Fair in Liberal, Kansas, where he served as superintendent of the pony department.
Survivors are one daughter, Lois Harrison and husband, Lewis, Tyrone, OK; three grandchildren, Lloyd Ray Harrison and wife, Nan, Leawood, KS, David L. Harrison and wife, Kathy, Tyrone, OK, and Linda Diemert and husband, Tom, Turpin, OK; six great-grandchildren, Ashley Harrison and wife, Scotty, Texhoma, OK, Leslie Harrison, Middlesex, UK, Lance Harrison, Turpin, OK, Riley Harrison, Goodwell, OK, Kyle Harrison, Las Vegas, NV, and Melanie Harrison, Stillwater, OK; two great-great-grandchildren, Ashton Harrison and Avery Harrison, Texhoma, OK; one brother, Darrel Amen and wife, Neva Jane of Pratt, Kansas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Carol Irene, one grandson, Roger Harrison, one brother, Marvin, and three sisters, Maggie, Mabel and Hazel.
