TURPIN, Okla. — The Forgan Lady Bulldogs outscored the Turpin Lady Cardinals 29-2 in the second and third quarters to turn a relatively close game into a romp, winning 45-15.
As has always been the mantra with Brett Trippet coached teams -everything begins with defense. And after taking a 12-5 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Bulldogs went into shutdown mode on the defensive end. Turpin did not score a field goal in the second period and did not score at all in the third. Meanwhile, Forgan spread the wealth with all five starters scoring in the second quarter.
“I was pleased with the defense -the defensive intensity that we brought, said Lady Bulldogs coach Brett Trippet. “ I thought we did a good job of getting some traps. Offensively I wasn’t real excited, but the defense was real good tonight.”
The Lady Bulldogs led 27-7 at the half, and 41-7 after three quarters.
Forgan’s defense kept the Cardinals from getting offensive opportunities. Forgan took 53 shots from the field while Turpin only managed 30. Forgan also only allowed Turpin two offensive rebounds, while Forgan gathered ten. The Lady Bulldogs also tallied 13 steals and 5 blocks to their defensive stats.
Trippet still sees the need for his team to improve, especially when it comes to offense. “We’ve got to see the passes that are available to us, right now we are missing them. Overall offensively we have to get better.”
Forgan’s Kenzi Taylor led all players with 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting, and 11 rebounds. Samantha Leisher added 9 points, and 5 assists, and Kaci Hall scored 7, grabbed 6 rebounds, and blocked 4 shots.
Forgan improves their record to 5-4, and Turpin falls to 2-7. Both teams will begin tournament play in Woodward, Oklahoma, Thursday. Turpin will take on Beaver at 7 p.m., and Forgan will play Sharon-Mutual at 10 a.m.
