FOLLETT, Texas — The Beaver Dusters and Lady Dusters brushed off the disappointment of second place finishes in the Canadian Holiday Classic last weekend with a pair of runaway wins over Follett on Tuesday night.
The Lady Dusters improved to 12-1 with a 60-36 win, while the boys won 54-38.
Erin Becker scored 16 of her game-high 24 points in the Lady Duster win.
“Erin Becker had a super first quarter,” Beaver head coach Coasey jones said. “Coming off a 2-point performance (in the Canadian Tournament final).
“We kind of got our legs back under us. We came back (from Canadian) with our tail between our legs a little bit and we worked out really hard leading up to this.”
Jacinda Balderrama scored 13, Jordan Jesko 7, Catie Rife 6, Shelby Brown 5, Anna McDonald 3 and Shelby Perry 2.
The Lady Dusters travel to Woodward for the Oil Center Classic, opening against Turpin on Thursday.
“Turpin, Waynoka and Sharon-Mutual are probably a little bit down right now,” Jones said. “But Canton, Shattuck, Forgan and Mooreland are all pretty solid teams. Hopefully we can play well against Turpin and get to the next round.”
The boys had two players over 20 points as Samuel Becker scored 28 and Cole Trippet 20 in the 54-38 win.
“We started slow,” coach Brian Stalder said. “Follett had eight free throws in the first quarter and stayed in the game a little bit longer than they should have.
“We’ve been struggling in the first half and then playing a really good second half. I sure was glad we got off to a better start offensively (Tuesday night).
The Dusters open the Oil Center Classic Thursday against Waynoka.
