Area sports programs in Kansas resumed practices Tuesday afternoon in preparation for the second half of the season.
The Liberal High School Redskin basketball teams will practice this week, take the new year’s holiday off and return to action on Jan. 4 at Ulysses. The Redskin boys are 3-2 overall after a win at Perryton, Texas a couple weeks ago.
The Lady Red are 2-3 after a loss at Perryton. Liberal had started 0-2, won two straight in the Conestoga Classic before the controversial loss in Texas.
Both Liberal teams will visit Hays Jan 7 and return home to face Garden City on Jan. 11.
The Southwestern Heights basketball squads don’t play again until a Jan. 11 trip to Meade. The Mustangs play at home again on Jan. 14 against Sublette.
The Liberal High School wrestling team is also back on the mat this week for practice in preparation for their next meet. The Redskin grapplers will host the Southwest Classic at Liberal High School on Jan. 8.
Across the border in Oklahoma, the Beaver High School boys and girls basketball teams begin play today in the Canadian Wildcat Classic in Canadian, Texas. The Lady Dusters enter the tournament 9-0 and ranked No. 10 in the state of Oklahoma Class A coaches poll.
The Lady Dusters open the tournament against Clarendon, Texas, while the Duster boys take on Groom, Texas.
The tournament concludes on Friday night.
The Forgan High School boys basketball team played Class 6A Muskogee on Tuesday night in Tusa, but due to early holiday deadlines, results were not available.
