BALKO, Okla. – LaVerne D. “Vern” Davis, 92, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at Oklahoma University Hospital, Oklahoma City.
He was born Nov. 1, 1918, to John H. and Opal Rennick Davis in Beaver County, Okla.
He married Doris Criswell Oct. 5, 1943, in Oberlin. She survives.
He attended school in Turpin and graduated from Beaver High School in 1939. He attended Phillips University in Enid, Okla.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a medic in World War II. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher in Beaver County.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Beaver.
Other survivors include one daughter, Karen Grose and husband, Joe, Balko, Okla.; one brother, Harold Davis and wife, Ida Mae, Warrensburg, Mo.; two sisters, Lucille Myers and husband, Bill, Liberal, and Betty Janzen, Balko; four grandchildren, Tara Flanagan, Tracey Ferguson and Colt and Heath Davis; four great-grandchildren, Sara Hodges, Dustin Kitchens, Abigale Trenton and Bradley Ferguson; and one great-great-granddaughter, Bostyn Hodges.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jerry Lee Davis, two brothers, Merle and Johnny Davis, and one sister, Dephna Dain.
o Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Beaver with Pastor Rick Main presiding.
Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery.
Friends may call at 1 to 8 p.m. today at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church in care of the mortuary.
