The West eighth grade girls basketball teams pulled into domination station Thursday afternoon, but unlike the train that blocked Kansas Avenue most of Thursday evening, these girls moved — and moved quickly — sweeping Dodge City in Ark River Conference action at West Middle School.

West jumped to a 10-0 lead and was never threatened by Dodge City in picking up its second win of the season. Jasmine Hernandez, Cristine Garcia and Kelly Ramirez sparked the early run for the Lady Warriors.
After Dodge City cut it to 18-10 in the opening seconds of the third quarter, a steal by Ramirez led to an easy layup to increase the lead to 10. Megan Besecker and Yvette Vasquez helped the Lady Warriors increase that advantage to 12 entering the final frame.
Ramirez ended up with 14 points, Hernandez eight, Besecker six, Garcia four and Vasquez two for West.
The Lady Warriors take on South, Monday. The eighth grade will play at South and the seventh at West at 4 p.m.

Dodge City didn’t score its first basket until mid-way through the second period as West built a 6-2 halftime lead. Hannah Roberts and Yvette Vasquez did the scoring in the first half for the Lady Warriors.
West continued its domination in the second half, including a sequence in the fourth quarter in which Vasquez scored six points off three consecutive steals after Dodge City had cut it to 9-6 early in the period.
Vasquez ended up as leading scorer with eight points, followed by Roberts with four, Taylor Young two and Trinity Coleman one.
