A state runner-up finish and distinction as the best public school soccer team in the state of Kansas all but assured the Liberal High School boys soccer team recognition when the all-Western Athletic Conference teams were announced.
And the Redskins didn’t disappoint.
Four Redskins were named to the Western Athletic Conference first team, with one honorable mention. The player and coach of the year were also from Liberal High School.
Liberal junior Joe Campos and seniors Jose Flores, Hector Mata and Frederic Gomez were named all-conference first team. Senior Saul Roman was honorable mention.
Coach of the Year was Lori Navarro and Player of the Year was junior Isai Gutierrez.
Three players from Dodge City were named to the first team. Dodge City finished second to Liberal in the WAC, and was fourth in the state in Class 6A, finishing 15-4-2 after losses of 2-0 to Overland Park Blue Valley West, and 6-3 to Wichita Northwest in the consolation final.
