The Turpin Cardinals came into this weekend with a chance at third place district finish, but a dominant performance by the Seiling Wildcats shut that idea down as the Cardinals lost, 32-8.

Turpin was never really in the game as Seiling scored twice in the first quarter to go up 12-0. The Turpin offense had just 13 yards on 9 plays in the quarter and no first downs.

The Cardinals were at least able to muster some offense in the second quarter through the air. Twice Turpin quarterback Isaiah Villalobos connected with Cesar Onchondo for gains of 35 and 22. Villalobos ran for 13 and 12 yard runs, but the Cardinals could not put together a scoring drive, and Seiling added a second quarter touchdown made it 18-0 at the half in favor of the Wildcats.

Seiling added a pair of TDs in the third to put the game out of reach at 32-0.

Turpin did get on the board in the fourth as Villalobos was able to get his biggest gains of the day with runs of 42 and 49. The latter was followed by a 17 yard pass from Villalobos to Brady Palmer for 17 yards that set up the Cardinals at the Seiling 9. Villalobos scored on the next play to get the goose egg off the board. Logan Loomis caught Villalobos’ pass for the 2-point conversion.

Villalobos finished with 25 carries for 168 yards rushing and a TD, and was 5-18 passing for 87 yards and an interception.

Turpin finished with 281 yards of offense on 53 plays.

Turpin (3-5, 0-3) will host Canton Friday. The winner makes the playoff, the loser is out.
