The Lady Redskins hosted the Western Athletic Conference volleyball tournament Saturday and came away with third place after turning in a 2-2 performance.

The Lady Redskins opened with Dodge City in one of the closest matches of the day.

Liberal came away with a 28-26 win in the first set, but the Lady Red Demons were able to force a third set with a 25-23 win in Set 2.

The Lady Redskins were abel to hold off Dodge City in the third set for a 25-22 win.

In the second match of the day, the Lady Redskins came up short in another hotly contested match, falling to Hays 27-25, 25-22.

Liberal lost its second match of the day against Garden City after a slow start led to a 25-16 loss in the first set, and a tight battle ensued in the second set before the Lady Redskins fell 25-23.

In the final match of the day, the Lady Redskins cruised to a 25-17, 25-13 win over Great Bend.

Liberal’s 2-2 performance was good enough for third place.

Liberal will travel to Great Bend Saturday to compete in Sub-State.

The eight-team grouping includes Goddard, Goddard-Eisenhower ,  Great Bend, Liberal, Maize South, Salina-Central, Salina-South, and Bishop Carroll.

Liberal will be paired in a four-team pod out of the eight teams once seeding has taken place later this week, and the winner of the four-team pod will advance to the state tournament at the Expocentre in Topeka.
