Eisenhower scored early and often in the annual crosstown clash against Seymour Rogers seventh grade football game. The Warriors only needed 12 seconds to score a touchdown to start the game and continued to dominate in a 56-0 win.

The Apaches committed several turnovers including an interception returned for a touchdown and a fumble returned for another score.

“We have a good nucleus of kids,” Warrior coach Trace Haskell said. “I wish we had more kids out, that’s our job to get more kids out. But they are a football-savvy group. My son is in that class, and I’ve been around that group since Kids Inc. I think we’ve learned that we are not the fastest, but we know football. Our goal next year will be 7-0. When we get on a roll, it’s hard to get stopped.”

Israel Garcia ran the first touchdown on the first play to set the tone early.

“This class will be looking for a quarterback,” Haskell said. “Tristain (Juarez) started earlier this year. But Izzy had a good day.”

The moment was special for Haskell and his son Joseph.

“The reason I dropped down is to spend more time with my son,” Haskell said. “I’ve been at the high school level for 10 years. My family was getting neglected. I wanted to spend time with him. What better way than with football? But I treat them all like my kids. The only difference is he comes home with me.”
