MEADE – David Stewart Adams, 76, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at Lone Tree Retirement Center in Meade.

He was born June 16, 1934, to Raymond E. and Jessie Stewart Adams in Topeka.

He married Judy Robert Sept. 13, 1980, in Maple Hill. She survives.

He attended the Maple Hill Grade School. He later attended Pembrooke County Day School in Kansas City, Mo., before graduating from Washburn Rural High School in 1952. After his graduation, he attended Kansas State University. He later joined the United States Army, serving for several years.  Upon his discharge, he returned to Kansas State University furthering his education.

After his schooling, he continued his ranching career, ranching all his life.

He was a member of the Kansas Cattleman’s Association, a founding member of the Maple Hill A.A., the American Royal, Pembrooke Hill Alumni Association and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.

He was a pilot and enjoyed flying his Beechcraft Baron for more than 40 years.

Other survivors include his children, Sarah Adams Guinn and husband, Kent, Overland Park, Amy Berckman and husband, Bobby, Moorehead City, N.C., and David Stewart Adams Jr. and wife, Caroline, Shawnee; one sister, Ann Russell, Lawrence; and six grandchildren, Alexander Guinn, Grace Guinn, Colin McDonald, Kirsten McDonald, Andrew Adams, Paige Adams and Amanda Steffen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one stepson, Craig Shaffer; and one brother, Raymond E. Adams Jr.

o Memorial services will be at 2  p.m. Sunday at the Adams Ranch in rural Meade.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Old Stone Church in Maple Hill.

Burial will follow at the Maple Hill Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Meade County Historical Society in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary of Meade or the Maple Hill A.A. Group Activities Fund in care of the Piper Funeral Home of St. Mary’s.
