ULYSSES – Elizabeth May Rosel, 94, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2017 at Western Prairie Senior Living Community in Ulysses.  

She was born Aug. 31, 1923 to William T. (Ted) and Anna (Gray) Rosel in Liberal.

She attended Ulysses schools, graduating from Grant County Rural High School in 1941.  After attending Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell, Okla. for two years, she obtained a temporary teaching certificate due to the shortage of teachers during WWII.  She taught in the Ulysses elementary school system for three years while attending Fort Hays State College during the summers and in 1947 received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.  

After graduation, she joined her mother as a partner in the Gray and Rosel Department Store.  She was well known in the Ulysses community during a business career that spanned five decades.  

She was a member of various civic organizations and was always an enthusiastic supporter of Ulysses and Grant County.

She played bridge regularly and often hosted bridge club.  

She was accomplished in the art of needlepoint, designing and creating many beautiful and original needlepoint works.  

She taught needlepoint classes and was a member of the Embroiderer’s Guild of America, attending numerous national needlepoint seminars where she was recognized for her skill and design work.

Survivors include many family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

 Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with Reverend Todd Guinn presiding.  

Burial will follow at the Moscow Cemetery in Moscow.  

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
