The televising of county commission meetings in the new administration building has been delayed.
Due to a federal mandate on digital television and changing local cable companies, information technology director Ron Menousek said at Monday’s meeting, the delay would be at least one month.
“Windjammer Communications had said that they would have everything in place by Jan. 1,” he said. “I met with Time Warner (Monday) to find out why the status hasn’t moved. The reason for that is the federal mandate on digital television for February.”
When Windjammer took over Time Warner earlier this month, officials from the company found out the infrastructure that was in place was not what they were led to believe, according to Menousek.
“Their emphasis has been on that,” he said. “Our problem is that we don’t have any leverage other than saying it’s a community service.
We’re not part of the franchise agreement like the city has. The city does have leverage, but we don’t.”
Menousek said at this point, it will be at least another 30 days unless compatible wireless signal communication can be found that would beam the signal directly to the company office.
“In which case, they could install it very quickly, but they’re trying to find that kind of equipment that’s going to work properly and provide a good solid signal,” he said.
