Daily Leader staff report

For the first time in Liberal High School girls golf history, the team has qualified for state competition.  The girls finished third in their regional behind first place Hays and second place Salina South.

Megan Campbell placed fifth overall in competition shooting a 98. Kaela Kruger shot a 118, Evan Sumner had a 122, and Jamie Brond 129.

“I am so excited for the girls and the program,” Liberal coach Kody Thexton said. “We continue to improve and make things happen in tournaments.  We are always hanging around, and we got the break we were looking for. We beat Newton by one stroke so we would qualify.  It was a gutsy performance in the rain, and I can’t say enough about the girls resolve to hang in there and finish the best they can.”

Liberal will play Monday at Willow Bend in Wichita.
