The Turpin Cardinals suffered their first district loss of the season Friday night losing to the Thomas Terriers 38-7.

"They were able to control the line of scrimmage throughout the game, and they have some great skill position players to take advantage of it," said Cardinals Head Coach Mario Mendoza. "We made some mistakes that hurt us, and you can't do that against a quality ballclub and get away with it."

Thomas outgained Turpin on the ground 234 to 155 and outgained them in total yardage 300 to 152.

One bright spot for the Cardinals offense was Matt Mendoza who rushed for 115 yards on 19 carries.

Clinton Toney led the defense with 16 tackles, and Matt Mendoza added 9.

Turpin falls to 2-1 in district play and 4-2 overall. The Cardinals will travel to Texhoma next Friday to take on the Red Devils in a district A-1 matchup.
