Everett Lee Rush, 85, died Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal, KS. He was born November 9, 1923, at El Reno, OK, the son of Lloyd R. and Geneva Rush. On November 15, 1942, he married Leota Claudene McGrew, his childhood sweetheart. On January 9, 1943, Everett joined the Navy to serve in World War II, suspending his high school education. After an honorable discharge, he returned and earned his diploma in 1946.

Everett began his construction career in Guymon, OK before moving to Liberal, KS 47 years ago. He built nearly 500 homes as a general contractor and constructed one of Liberal’s largest commercial office buildings. Everett was a fixture in the community for more than four decades, and he was an active member of Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church.

He is survived by: one son—Terry L. Rush and wife Josephine L., Liberal, KS; two brothers—J.D. Rush, Oklahoma City, OK, and Jim Rush, Independence, KS.; two sisters—Mrs. Kendall (Janice) Brown and Mrs. Byrum (Patsy) Detamore both of El Reno, OK; and one grandson—T. Erin Rush, Norman, OK. He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and two brothers—Bill Rush and Tommy Rush.

o A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 29, at Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church, Liberal, KS. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 30, City of El Reno Cemetery, El Reno, OK.

Visitation will be 1:00-5:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd, Liberal, KS 67901.
