C. ELDON DUNN
ELKHART – C. Eldon Dunn, 83, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008 at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.
He was born June 8, 1925, to Oral and Lena (Sims) Dunn in Abbyville.
He married Clara Elizabeth Grubb Nov. 23, 1949. She survives.
He attended elementary school in Richfield, graduated from Richfield High School, and attended Panhandle State A&M in Goodwell, Okla.
He was a farmer and stockman and also worked off-farm to support his family. He was a road equipment operator for Morton County, managed Cogburn Grain Elevator in Richfield and he retired as road supervisor from Morton County Road Department.
He was a member of the Richfield Untied Methodist Church and was active with the United Methodist Men’s organization.
He served on the Richfield and Rolla Boards of Education for 25 years, was a member of the Morton county Grazing Association and was a Cub Scout and 4-H club leader. He was selected as a Home Front Hero in Morton County in 2003 as part of the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit and was most recently nominated by the Morton County Historical Society as Pioneer Man of the Year.
Eldon enjoyed sports and puzzles.
Other survivors include two sons, Larry Dunn and wife, Martha, Elkhart, and Duane Dunn and wife, Cindi, Liberal; one daughter, Nancy Leonard and husband, Tim, Lone Wolf, Okla.; two brothers, Howard Dunn and wife, Mary Anna, Turpin, Okla., and Don Dunn and wife, Barbara, Richfield; two sisters, Verda Mae Allen, Elkhart, and Gail King and husband, Richard, Woodward, Okla.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Crystal (Dunn), David and Preston Bashford, Richfield, Eddie and Kestra Leonard, Granite, Okla., Elizabeth (Leonard), James, Kassie and Tyler Hall, Elk City, Okla., Jennifer (Dunn), Chris and Brooklyn Tuttle, Guymon, Okla., Timma Leonard Lone Wolf, and Bonnie (Leoanrd) and Anna Brock, Lone Wolf; one sister-in-law, Lois Dunn, Richfield; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Roger Dunn, one brother, Wallace Dunn, and one sister, Avilla (Dunn) Lewis.
o Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Richfield United Methodist Church, with Pastor Sandy Ferguson presiding.
Burial will be at the Richfield Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.
