Interested in fresh, home cooking in fast-food style? The South Church of God will be providing carhop service in an effort to raise funds for a youth conference in Wichita.
Youth Pastor Laurent Vincent said the meal will be available for purchase from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the South Church of God. Meal prices, she said, are yet to be determined.
“The community will just drive up and park in grass lots,” Vincent said. “The youth will come out and get their order. We are just going to have a simple menu. We will have hamburgers, homemade french fries and soda.”
The fundraiser will eventually fund the Church of God Youth Convention. Vincent said donations will be accepted.
“It is in Wichita the weekend before Thanksgiving,” she said. “It is a big conference that a lot of Church of God kids throughout the state go to. There are a lot of worship services.
“Of course,” she added, “if they have any funds left over it will stay in their account for other youth activities, such as a mission trip.”
Vincent said she has heard comments throughout the community that locals rather enjoyed the carhop service and have missed it over the past year. Vincent added it has been a successful fundraiser in the past.
“I believe it has gone fairly well,” she said. “I only have been here about six or seven months so I haven’t been a part of it before. I was told, the year before last, it went really well. Since they didn’t do it last year, the community missed it.”
