This is the photo that created a hubbub around the country. The caption reads in part, “The Picture that probably got the most mileage around the world in Pancake Day history was Virginia Leete’s fall in the snow during a practice session in 1951. Nadine Hilyard enjoys Virginia’s misfortune.” Virginia was overheard several years ago saying the photo created “much ado about nothing, but it did create quite a commotion.” For Virginia’s complete obituary, see PAGE 2A.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 24, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church, Liberal, KS, 3rd and Grant, with the Rev. David Randall officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Pancake Day Inc., Angels for Animals or Seward County Community College in care of Miller Mortuary.
