ELKHART – Ina Lavell Penick, 92, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born Oct. 14, 1924 to Andrew and Ova Edith (Davolt) Powell in Bucklin, Mo.
She married William Floyd Penick July 25, 1948 in Elkhart. He preceded her in death May 2004.
She graduated from Brookfield High School in Brookfield, Mo.
During World War II, she worked as a supervisor at the Ordinance Plant in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was the clerk of the District Court in Morton County, and also worked at the Farm Bureau Insurance Agency.
Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, embroidery, cooking, and collecting cookbooks.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elkhart.
Survivors include son, Raymond Penick and wife, Shirley, Tulsa, Okla.; daughter, Marylin Porterfield and husband, Bob, Garden City; brother, Edward Powell and wife, Betty, Bucklin, Mo.; sisters, Wanda Stark, Denver, and Helen Sparkman, Elkhart; grandchildren: Lisa Penick McCune and husband, Scott, Flower Mound, Texas, Shana Porterfield Tabor and husband, Dustin, Garden City, Dr. Mark Penick and wife, Starrla, Andover, Shelly Porterfield, Colorado Springs, and Clay Porterfield and wife, Aimee, Garden City; great-grandchildren: Taryn Tabor, Taylee Tabor, Noah McCune, Teegan Tabor, Jaxton Penick, Camden McCune, Crewson Penick, and Luxeigh Penick; and many other family and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James O. Powell and Earl Powell.
• Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Elkhart with Dr. Mark Penick and Clay Porterfield presiding.
Burial will follow at Elkhart Cemetery.
